iPod Boxes – Past & Present

Boxes for Original 5GB and Latest 32GB iPod

Boxes for Original 5GB (rear) and Latest 32GB (front) iPod

It’s been almost 8 years since the release of the original iPod 5GB.

I remember thinking to myself how cool the packaging was at the time.

While the device was thicker and came with more accessories (like a firewire ac adapter) the box looks huge in comparison to the latest iPod Touch boxes.

One of the things that really set Apple apart (and still does to this day) is the care and design that went into their packaging.

As a California company in a very liberal and eco-conscious area, Apple has been doing a good job the last few years in shrinking the packaging of their products while still maintaing that cool factor.

Since I have a habit of keeping all of my Apple boxes, the smaller size is definitely welcome.

My favorite iPod box was the second generation 10GB model that had Jimi Hendrix on the cover.

So where will we be in another 8 years? Biodegradable sleeves? I’ll guess we’ll see soon enough.
