MacBook Can’t Burn Disks
Customer Provided Symptom: “When trying to burn photos to disk, I received the following error messages: (1) burn to the matshita dvd-r-uj-857e drive failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error; and (2) drive failed; device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry. I also attempted to burn a video and received a “burn failed” message.”
Mac Type: MacBook
Likely Causes: This is most likely caused by a failing or failed optical drive.
Solutions: The first step would be to try some different blank discs just to make sure that it’s not an issue with the brand or type of discs used. Using a slower write speed (2x versus 4x for example) may help. Sometimes when an optical drive is failing you’ll get inconsistent results, i.e. CD’s may burn but not DVD’s or vice versa. If it looks like the optical drive has failed, as the above error messages would indicate, MyService can remove the old drive and install a brand new one.
