Were you ever sent a video you couldn’t open on your Mac?
There are so many different file formats and codecs, iTunes or Quicktime may not be able to (or want you to) play the video.
Luckily there is the VLC Player. A free app for both Mac and Windows, VLC can read most media formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, DivX, MPEG-1, mp3, ogg, aac …) and is a safe and easy install.
Once installed, just drag the file you want to try and play onto the VLC app logo and most likely you’ll be laughing to the contents of the video in no time.

Getting the latest scores on your mobile device is nothing new.
What is new are the amazing sporting event apps being written for the iPhone. Case in point, the official Wimbledon 2009 app.
This free app delivers not only live scores, but a complete schedule, draws, videos and news on the event.
These free official sporting event apps have been popping up more and more lately and really deliver a connection to an event that you just don’t get from a static web page.
If you enjoy tennis and have an iPhone or iPod Touch this app is definitely worth a look. You don’t need to devote a weekend to enjoy the tournament. You can still be out and about and check in when are where you want.
I think apps like this will help draw in more viewers to the actual broadcasts because they make it easier to follow and get into.
I generally don’t watch much sports TV but tournaments like these are like soap operas, once they can get your attention, they usually keep it.

Apple announced today that they have sold over 1 million 3G S iPhones in the first 3 days of release.
The original iPhone sold about 270,000 units and the 3G about 1 million in their first 3 days.
The Palm Pre three day launch tally is estimated at about 50,000 units (Palm has not yet released any official numbers.)
With the smartphone market growing more and more crowded, the real test will be to see if the iPhone can win over Blackberry owners (and their IT departments.)
According to AppleInsider, 12% of iPhone purchasers this weekend were replacing a Blackberry.
According to Steve, “Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning.”
A helpful (and free) OS X widget we use everyday is iStat Pro.
iStat Pro is a customizable, real time system monitor that displays info about your Mac. This dashboard like utility shows network activity, CPU & Memory usage, disk space, battery info, fan(s) speed and temp readings.
We use this utility to test fans and monitor internal temperature sensors.
Mac laptops contain many different temp sensors that help the system determine fan speed. A failed temp sensor or broken fan can lead to overheating which in turn can lead to component failure. This app is very helpful in diagnosing heat related issues.
There is also a new iStat Server and iPhone app for remote monitoring which is very helpful for server admins.
